Weird wire

Can someone tell me what this red wire is?
Seems like the previous owner attached a red wire to the white wire and it connects to the battery (see picture).

I can't zoom in very well, but it looks like the red wire is attached to the white wire from the R/R. Not sure why they would do that, but as long as the white wire runs where it's supposed to, I imagine you can get rid of the red wire. If the white wire doesn't run where it should, bust out the schematic and start chasing wires...

if it goes to the R/R, its probably bypassing the j-box and crappy ass wire in the harness. I dont have my diagrams handy to double check, but that would be logical

Using the red wire on the battery (if it really is attached to the white wire on the R/R) bypasses the main 30 amp fuse. Best case scenario is that the wire connections for the standard wiring (wires from R/R to JB and from JB to battery) are oxidized and the PO was just trying to get good conductivity. Less-than-best-case scenario is the PO kept blowing fuses due to some other craziness in the electrical system, and intentionally bypassed the fuse.

My thoughts exactly. I replaced my **** R/R with a MOSFET, and in doing so, lost the brown wire (which is fine), and only have a power and ground coming out of my MOSFET. I would guess that the white goes to the JB, and the JB has a power wire going back to the battery, and this bypasses the JB altogether

I'm not much of an electric guy.. i dont "see" any damaged wires..

What exactly is the JB?

Can i leave it like this or do i have to replace the JB (or maybe disconnect the wire and see what it does?)

The bike runs fine btw

JB -> junction box. Contains fuses and some relays. The wires you're looking at shouldn't have anything other than a fuse that you would need to be concerned about. Others have a deep hatred for the junction box due to some relays that can burn out, causing gremlins in other systems.

you can reconnect it, just put in a 30A fuse holder so the rest of the circuitry is protected

Just went through my manual. That White wire goes to the JB, into a 30 amp fuse, and then to the battery to charge it. If I were you, I would go to the auto store and buy a fuse holder and a 30 amp fuse, and solder it in line with the white wire, and then reconnect it to the battery. If you don't, your charging system won't recharge your battery
