Tail light won't turn off

Hi All--

Went out to start my '99 VN750 the other day and the battery was dead. I got the bike used and figured it was time for a new battery anyway, just to be on the safe side, so I went out and got a new sealed one. Installed it in the bike, went for a ride, came back, all was fine.

Put the bike in the garage and turned the bars hard left and put the key in the park position. Hopped off and aha! My tail light and license plate light were still on. This must be how I drained the old battery. Turned the key to "off" and the lights switched to off.

What do you think might be causing this? Faulty ignition switch?

Any help much appreciated.

In park position "bars to the left" turn key all the way to the left Not to the right then remove key. To the right is for other countries that require a light on when parked.
