ohm values for stator

I read some where that the three wires coming from the stator should read.05 ohms or less when checked between either of two of the three wires and should read infinity (open) when checked from each stator wire and the engine case, are these figures apt to vary from meter to meter +/- .02 ohms? Also I would like to know the procedure for checking the R/R and the reasoning behind relocation,I am an old H-D man and Have worked on several Hondas and Kawasakis,I don't like where the stock location for the r/r is and could see where corrosion and heat if you still are running the goats belly could be a problem.I am thinking about installing a M/F battery before I fire mine back off for the summer.I currently have.07 ohms resistance through the stator and it is not grounded. The previous owner took this bike to the dealership and they told him he had a bad stator and R/R,I heard the bike run and I thought that the headlight actually got brighter as he revved the engine. He had bought a wally world battery and let it sit outside a week in twenty degree temps before he tried to start it again ,slow cranking and it didn't start(surprise ,surprise) so he starts tearing it down, and I showed up and bought it.What I am trying to ask is what is your best guess?Battery,R/R .My tests don't lead me to believe that I need a stator but I do not know the test procedure for the R/R,who can help me out here before I fire this beast up this week, I hope? ,Denny

Get you a volt meter start up and check your volts. Connect meter to the battery. Rev up to 3k or 4k rpm you should get 13 to 14 volts on your gauge.

Many guys here do that. I haven't relocated mine. I have had no trouble with it. Most of my riding is on the open road. The air blowing over it where it is keeps it cool enough.

I think your stator is fine, and with the GB removed there is no need to move the R/R. Get it running and check DC output.

I fired it up today and checked the battery voltage at Idle ,idle it was 12.52 or so and at 2000RPM it was 13.20 up to13.50 so as of now the charging system is good to go,the reason I was worried is the P.O. Had taken it to the Kawasaki shop to have the carbs rebuilt and they told him the stator and RR were both bad.The guy hauled it home and put a cheap battery in it ,wally world I think, and it started and ran ,I saw it at his house and stopped to check it out and bought it I still have to buy a better battery, but for right now I put a good slow charge in the cheap one and it fired right up with it woo hoo!!!!,now if my local shop will get my k&n's and my clutch cable in it is time to ride this Beast and see what has to happen on the jetting Thanks for the charging ad vice everybody,Denny
