Talking Engine teardown - shout out for parts!

I'm tearing down Orleans' original engine, so if anyone needs working parts, give a shout. When I pulled the lower part of the front cyl head, some foul looking fluid poured out of (I think) the coolant pipe. Lots of crud (sand - surprise!) in the pipes in the heads...should we take another Forum vote on whether this baby went through Katrina?? I swear the pipes were clogged with sand ...

Anyway, everything else looks squeaky clean. Duck's already got dibs on the valves, springs, cams, and piston heads. I'm gonna toss both parts of the front and rear cyl heads, unless anyone can convince me there's some reason to keep them (or someone has an art project in mind). I haven't split the case yet (another adventure for another day), but if anyone needs a stator rotor, left balancer gear (new dampers), clutch plates (new friction plates), or something, shoot me a pm and make me an offer I can't refuse. Elsewise, I'll just save the things I recognize and junk the rest.

Hello Cindy;

I'm interested in the clutch plates. Let me know how much you want for them plus shipping to Puerto Rico (zip code 00646).
Thanks,

Bengie

Do remember that a bunch of the engine is aluminum (says the guy that's remembering he tossed an engine part for the car that was AL) and AL is fetching premium prices at the scrap yards right now...

Luckily I don't need anything! Yet...

Cindy,

I got the estimate from DHL @ 125.00. See what you can get from your end.

Don't be trashing those cylinder and heads just yet, depending on how the cash flows, I may be able to buy them as well.

85 VN750 basketcase ( yes its a true 750, and no smog controls, its good to be Canadian)
It will have
a rebuilt 96 top end, rebuilt 85 bottom end
degoated, Eared
stripped, lowered, raked, bobbed,
reed valve boxes shaved
ported and polished
balanced
right side dump exhaust
heads and cylinders shaved for compression
looking for smoothbore sidedraft carbs
possibly fat bob tanks
modified vn800 or sportster drag pipes or I'll just make some

Chopperfix

$99.90 UPS; $96 and change Fed Ex; $23 postal service (but I have to take it to a real post office (they won't mail it from work if it's over a pound??)).

I can't remember, but you just have a blown head gasket, right? Unless something else went kerflooey, you're probably ok with just a new gasket. But keep your eyes peeled as you go through - just in case...

Will do - they'll actually be coming off the new/replacement engine, which has only 9K miles on it (I replaced Orleans' ACCTs with TOC springs). I'll check to make sure the springs are good, though.
