I have a 2003 with 19,000 miles on it. The stator and r/r are shot. I was going to upgrade in the very near future to a Honda Shadow and cannot afford to do both. You are in luck though, esp. if you can do the job yourself as the stator is a Rick's and is under warranty till 9/08. That was not the problem, the labor for the pull is where I said no can do.
I have done all the service on it myself. Oil and filter changed religiously every 3,000 miles, brake fluid just changed last fall as was the fork oil. Unfortunately, I also was bitten by the spline turd and replaced the final
drive last fall. I was told by the shop initially it was just the regulator and so I bought that only to be told the stator too was faulty. It is a great running bike that I have owned for nearly two years and was used daily for work. I was getting 53-55 mpg. There is a couple of scratches on the fuel tank near the seat. One day at work I caught a couple of little kids crawling on it and I guess a belt buckle or something rubbed on the tank.
So, the lucky buyer will have a new r/r in the box and a stator replaced by Rick's, you are just responsible for the installation. KBB says $3,945. I am asking $2,900. I don't have pics yet but hope to poss. this weekend. Need to find someone with a digital camera...
