WTB: Starter

Hi. I bought a VN750 and the starter and solenoid are shot. I found a remanufactured starter for $265, but that will take several weeks to arrive and I was hoping to not go that route. Does anyone have a starter available?

There's THIS ONE on ebay.
It's from an '85 though, so it may be quite a bit on the used side.

you can always rebuild your old starter so long as there are no mechanical issues

I sent it off to a shop to be looked at for a rebuild and they told me it is completely shot, that I need a new one.

A local parts dealer has a brand new one for $351, as well as a starter relay for $75, but I think that is pretty expensive

I talked with a guy in Colorado had one, but I think he sold it as he took down the Ebay link.

Does anyone have ANY idea on where I can get a starter. My car was stolen and totaled a few days ago and I have no ride to work now, with the local public transpo not even starting until I have to BE at work.

Hi, John! Were you the person I was emailing the other day? Just checking - at least I'll know you found the Forum!

If you need a starter solenoid like this (eBay part # 130075757719), I have a spare. I'll keep looking for a starter for you, too.

BTW, in re: my email yesterday about possible r/r and stator probs rather than a starter prob, check with the fine folks here just to be sure. When the stator and r/r go, it can seem like a starter problem. And, again, depending upon the skill of your mechanic, s/he might have misdiagnosed the problem with your bike. Worth checking the leads with an ohmmeter, just to be sure (especially since there are regulators and stators floating around on eBay right now).

haha, hi Cindy , yes, we have been emailing each other.

I am pulling the starter relay tonight and am going to an auto parts store to see if they have a replacement. Some members of the Yahoo group said that a certain car relay would work as a replacement and costs less.

And for that starter relay, I am already the high bidder

Small world in the electronic realm! If you lose the bidding (!perish the thought!)), email me - I think I bought mine for $9 or something plus shipping, and I'm happy to let it go for $9, even up.

starter!

I put out a wanted to buy email to a salvage site that in turn sends out your request to hundreds of its salvage members. I got, and am still getting, used starter offers. I ended up buying one on line from a salvage site for $90 shipped.
