FS - SPoT 1 Satellite tracker

Used for 2 years, in great condition. Never dorpped, crashed or otherwise mistreated. Never even been yelled at. Selling because my in-laws got me a 2nd generation unit - they were not aware I had a SPoT already.

$50 shipped to the lower 48.

Basically it is a rescue beacon, it will send your exact coords to GEOS to orchestrate a rescue effort. It can also be used to "check-in" by sending your coords to cell phones and email addresses.

an awesome product for people like me who like to disappear into the woods alone for 2 weeks at a time. Granted, the drawback of the device is that you have to be alive/conscious or not inconveniently separated (dropped you backpack off the cliff) to be able to press the !HELP!/Panic button.

......I'd rather wake up in the middle of nowhere then in any city on earth.

Another member here, haithabu, had some sort of tracking device that he carried on a trip from Alberta to Ontario in the summer of 2010. His wife here at home, and his father in Ontario could check a map online to see exactly where he was at any given time. He told them if the signal ever stopped outside an urban area for more than a couple of hours, to assume he was in trouble and couldn`t phone. They were to contact rescue authorities to start a search for him.

True! I used to carry it in my tank bag, but my wife asked (told) me I need to keep it in a pocket because in a crash I will likely be separated form the bike. In the mountains that could be the bike over the side of a cliff.

I think I saw that it was an annual fee of $100, so ~$8.50 per month.

Yes, the base service is $100/year and if you want the constant tracking service, it's another $50.
