Help

Hi everybody
My son just bought a '01' vn750 at a garage sale for 300.00. Upon closer examination something had let loose on the stator side and chewed the cases up. First thought was to find replacement engine. Then we found that some brainiac had hacksawed the left frame tube to get the stator cover off. The rest of the bike is near mint condition.
We'd like to find an engine and frame at reasonable price. If that's not feasible we'll have to part it out. Would appreciate any help or advice.

Thanks

Would welding the frame be an option? How bad is it? There's a thread on here where someone made the left down tube removable the same as the right side. May find it under stator mods, not sure. Probably a good idea to bail on that engine since the genius hacked up the frame because you never know what other, ahem....mods he may have made, ha ha. At any rate if you end up having to part it out, you'll get your money back and then some with a bit of patience I'd imagine. Wish ya the best.
Dave.

Where are you located at? Someone here in the Phx AZ area had a frame for sale on craigslist this past weekend.

I'm in MD (in the greater DC area) and about to part out my project bike. I've got a nice frame (with title) that I'd be willing to sell. Although I think I'd ask the seller for my money back before throwing more good money after bad.

Sounds like the crankshaft balancer dampers have disintegrated and the balancer gear has chewed through the case. A couple of members have successfully repaired this damage with JB Weld epoxy.

Edalbris posted 3 or 4 dozen pictures here in the gallery of his left side frame/subframe modification several years ago. It can be done but requires a donor frame for the connectors to weld into the frame tubes to match those on the right side.

After tracking down missing parts and fixing issues that we had with the bike, thanks to all those who gave us input on the forum, we finally got the bike running. I took it for a brief ride today. 20 degree weather in upstate new york and snow on the ground. Just waiting for spring so we can enjoy some good riding.

Don't they seem to run much better when you've put some of yourself into it?

Kudos and happy riding!!
