Buyer (or Seller) Beware
Lots of new Forum members these days and lots of folks buying and selling stuff. With a couple of recent threads questioning what folks are up to (long delays in shipping, an inherited bike being parted out), thought I'd bring to everyone's attention that we use an iTrader rating system here on the Forum. If you look under any member's name, you'll see "iTrader (X)" where X = the number of individuals with whom a member has had transactions (e.g., I could have 5 separate transactions with Lance328, but he'd only have a "1" for all of the ratings I have given him).
Works just like eBay - positive marks (and green dots) for good ratings, negative marks (and red dots) for bad ones. If you want to know the iTrading reputation of the person you're about to do business with, go through the ratings and see what his/her history is like. If you get to a person with "0" (the default for all new members), then you're taking your chances on an unknown quantity. The back-up might be to check the number of posts the member has made - has s/he been here awhile? Posted a bit? Seems to play well with others? Or did the person just join the Forum to try to offload parts or a bike?
None of these is foolproof, of course. But the more information you have about your transaction partner, the more secure you can feel in sending out money or parts and expecting the transaction to be completed. If you're still uncertain, skip whatever deal looks so good. There's plenty of parts out there (eBay, Craigslist, various Forum members), so you can wait until you find a trading partner with whom you're more comfortable.
