I have a set on my bike you could buy. I just need to figure out what goes in its place. I don't want the stock goats belly...but i want it 50% quieter than V and H. Anyone know how to do it? I still have my stock exhaust...or should i go to an exhaust shop and have them custom make me some? I just don't know about backpressure etc.....

my pipes are custom made, or should i say they are wrapped.
went to the local muffler shop and had them make me a set of 'pipe' using the same diameter as the OEM exhaust. i kept the OEM exhaust header and welded them with the 'custom pipes'. then i spent lots of time wrapping them. and voila!!!
they sound really good, i added some buffle (bought from local bike shop for a total of $12)
the bike is running really good, i have both carb mix open to 3 turns.
the whole project cost me about:
100 ft exhaust wrap for $50
10 aluminum ties for $12
1 can of black spray silicon to protect wrap for$12
custom pipe and welding for $35

if you want to go that route i will be happy to help you if any questions.

Totally. How loud are they? Are they less loud than V and H?

Give those V&H pipes some time....it will grow on you. If determined, a $65 kit can be purchased to bypass the GB... http://www.scootworks.com/shop.cgi/p...268746352.5555

How old are you V&H's, you may need to repack the baffles. Stock exhaust without the GB is only about 15% quieter than the V&H. If you have a shop make you an exhaust it will be louder than the V&H even with a baffle. If you 50% quieter you need to go back to the stock exhaust.

I am not really sure since i never heard the V&H exhaust, it sounds pretty close to the de-goated OEM pipe with drilled baffles.

I think you would really like HD Dyna or Sporster XL mufflers. The Dynas are a close fit only requiring a bit of work to get them on, they have that low rumble sound, and you can pick them up cheap on Craig's List or eBay. My Sporster XL's cost me $10 and are a bit louder than stock.

Can I buy them and bring them to a muffler shop? I don't have much equipment.
