A Columbus man died early yesterday after his motorcycle hit a guardrail on the Far North Side.
Samuel B. Porteous IV, 31, was driving a 1995 Suzuki on the ramp from eastbound I-270 to southbound I-71, police said. His motorcycle struck the guardrail shortly before 3 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Porteous had been disabled by another motorcycle accident about seven years ago, said a man who identified himself as Porteous' father in a phone call.
"We all were nervous, and we all talked to him about being safe," Mr. Porteous said. "But riding made him feel alive. It made him happy, and that was enough for me."
