Fall ride 2014

So planned a ride to the parents house with my brother and in-law. Started on Friday morning, sunny but cool. Just bought a Joe Rocket 4.0 jacket for the ride. Stayed off the freeways for the most part. Great ride and enjoyed the colors farther north.
Saturday showed rain west so we went east. My cousin took us on his snowmobile route. Found some cool towns and great burgers. Started to rain on the return, but made it back just before it let loose. The jacket let some rain in, but not bad.
Sunday was a whole different story. Heading south on old 127, It rained, and rained. First stop, my arms were soaked. Gore tex gloves soaked. Everything else dry. Changed gloves and added a rain suit jacket.
Back on the road and heavy rain off and on. Sun broke out when we hit Jackson and we thought we were good. Not quite. There was more hard rain in our future. High winds and driving rain for 20 minutes till we arrived at Wolf lake.
Noticed the boots were damp even though they too are gore tex lined. Joe rocket was wet inside, gloves soaked, as was lower portion of helmet. This was my first trip in the rain. Bike did very well, tires kept traction at highway speeds and no problem seeing, though the visor did fog a bit.
All in all, actually enjoyed the trip. Not sure what one does on a longer wetter trip when staying at hotels. None of my gloves were dry in the morning even though they were by a register. How do you dry your clothes and such at a hotel? How many gloves do your bring?
On a side note, the wrist and the lining zipper broke on the first day, and as I said, my arms were soaked even though the jacket says 100% water proof. Looking forward to longer trips next year, and feel comfortable in any condition. As we were riding in the rain, noticed some Harley riders without helmets. That has to hurt getting slammed with rain at high speeds.
