This chosen weekend of May 18-20 (as of this writing) does not interfere with any major Barber or Talladega event. It misses Mother's Day weekend. It does not interfere with any other SE regional bike rally that I know of--except it overlaps with the very tail end of the Myrtle Beach spring rally. The original VN750 rally dubbed "The Homecoming" isn't until sometime in July, so it shouldn't interfere with that event. The proposed "Hocking Hills" rally elsewhere on this Forum is maybe that same weekend, but it is not a SE event and I figured most of those planning to go to it would not likely attend our SE rally, anyway.

The weekend of May 18-20 is also the weekend right in front of Memorial Day weekend, so we won't be coping with summer vacation traffic and holiday demand for hotels and restaurants.

Anyway....given the above weekend (and maybe the friday b4 and monday afterward)...who feels they can reasonably make it for that weekend (both saturday & sunday) for a first rally? If you can/will be staying at least overnite--please specify. Thanks!.....
The hocking hills Run to the hills is a done deal, and I am booked for it,I would like to have came down as I am in the south east but it would have been contingent on it being more toward Aug or Sept. however it works out, with or without me, I hope you all have a great time.

If you see it on my bike I did it

I am of course going to be a part of this but unless we are camping out I don't see my need for a place to stay.

Get together info.

Me and Dave (DAcataldo) stopped by Courtyard 25 on Sunday. If anyone is interested, they have 8 cabins for rent on the grounds of the bike resort/bar/restraunt. 2 of the cabins have a single twin(?) size bed and the other 6 have the twin and a set of bunkbeds. they are small, basic, but clean and neat. Bath house on site. also available is camping in the same wooded area. Located just a realy cool ride away fron Barbers museum and track.
All cabins are $50 a night and camping is $10. ( $20 down with a refund if you clean your site up)
Fire pit on site.
No real web site, just a facebook page.

The Hampton is nice, and pricey. Discounted to $99 a night if 10 or more are rented. regularly $120.

Yep - PHURP and I had a good, but short ride. I ate and drank and he watched and listened to the band ... when another VN750 rides in! We had a good chat. Thanks, PHURP, for checking out the cabin prices while I continued chowing. See you soon for a longer ride.

BTW peeps, we left about 5 minutes before the motorcycle accident less than a mile away from the resort where the Birmingham detective died. It might have been a car passing over the middle line causing him to swerve off the road. Could have been PHURP if we stayed a few minutes longer! Angels are out there! Story here:

That's sad, it sounds to me like he may have just let his head get out of it for a sec. or two... That's easy done, and very dangerous especially on a bike, keep your head into your ridin, don't let it wonder one small bit... I get a lot of comments, you need to slow down at your age, but if I do my mind wonders away from my ridin...
Your head is your best piece of safety equipment you have...

Our deepest sympathies to the deceased officer and family & friends.

The given news report reads as if he may have gone into a turn too hot, and failed to negotiate the turn.

Re: my above post.....I asked who might stay overnight, simply because the Barber museum alone will require at least several hours to do a worthwhile visit, since there are so many cool bikes and displays to see there.

Thus, we'd really need 2 days for each participant to do the museum, some group riding and anything else (like visiting a few cool restaurants together--e.g., bbq).

Phurp & DAC--thanks much for the info and homework given above!....
