I was able to make a 120 ride on my bike and the seat just about killed my rear. I found this seat pad but have never seen one before. Does anyone know if its just something that is strapped to the existing seat for extra comfort? I can't really tell by the pictures and there is no instruction on the website so looking for someone on here that might have some knowledge.
Also, what size would be needed? I still have the stock seat on there. Thanks in advance!
The stock seat measures 13" at the widest part and about 17" long following the curve of the seat.
With most of these seat pads you have the choice of just laying them on the seat, or attaching them with a strap. Many can also be built into the seat itself.
I read of one guy who bought a couple of fake sheep fleece car wash mitts from Wal-Mart for just a few $, picked out the seams and used those for seat cushions.
It has also been suggested to restring a beaded seat cushion to fit the bike seat.
I`m going to try the last two options before spending $100+ on one of the others.
Best seat solution: Scout Craigslist for someone selling a Mustang seat. The stock seat was torture after 2 hours, the Mustang is fine for 12+ hour rides.
Many have re-done their seats themselves. I found a good deal on a Corbin seat with backrest....and I also made my own butt pad. But for the money you can't beat Spencers as he can make the seat to fit not only your needs, but your butt.
One more strong endorsement for Spencer... he did my stock seat and it was so good I sold the Mustang seat I had. Then not long afterward I noticed the seat wasn't quite as comfortable anymore. I contacted Spencer and after a few emails back and forth he agreed to take the seat back for the rare but possible "tweaking" of his work.... no charge. He's an honorable guy. Give him your seat. You won't regret it.
Thanks for the feedback. Looks like Spencers is the best and cheapest way to go for me at the moment. I have a question about a section on his order form.
