Cool Motorcycle Road Tests

Hey,

Has anyone recently taken a road test or are you aware of what they encompass? Specifically, I live in NY State and would like to know. I'm sure they vary state to state. Thanks!

here upstate you ride up to the test site with a licensed(motorcycle license) in a car behind you.the instructor gives you directions where to go(ask him if he wants you to use hand signals or if blinkers alone are ok).he will have you pull off to one side and do two circles across the roadway to the left, then two to the right.he will then have you stop, then do two figure eights across the roadway. not too hard, really

I just got my license this summer in NJ through a school. The test they gave us was basically, right and left turns, s hard controlled stop, lane switch, box u-turn, and I think that was it. From what I heard, in NY, you need to provide a chase car to follow you during the test which seems to be making right and left turns and stopping at stop signs. Hope that helps. BTW, try youtube as they have some footage of road tests.

In Oregon they phased out individual motorcycle licensing (rather an endorsement) through the DMV. The only way to get a motorcycle endorsement in Oregon now is by completing the motorcycle training through Team Oregon. Team Oregon issues a card upon completion and passing of the training. You take the card to the DMV and they update your driver's license with a motorcycle endorsement.

If you can find one take an MSF approved course and get certified, you will learn (or in my case relearn) a LOT, have some fun and meet fellow riders while getting a license.

We had cones in SC and then a concrete 'hill' we had to stop and start on. It was STEEP. Try it when you have no front break which was the case with my 73 Honda 350FOUR.

Taking a riding course like the one MSF offers will also lower your insurance.

Actual testing does vary state to state, so yes, call your DMV and just ask

I also live in NY, I don't think it's an endorsement, they just add the class M to your class D. I took the MSF course which has an evaluation at the end, which is much easier than the road test. Got the card, went to the DMV to get it added on, done.
