I was reading the newest thread for the vn750.com grill just a day or two ago, and now I cannot find it anywhere. I tried to search using various combinations of grill+shiny+stainless+steel and got no matches. I will appreciate any directions here.
I found a site, www.plasmacam.com
that sells a computer controlled plasma cutter on a table-jig affair. If a picture can be drawn by hand or on a computer, the design can be cut out. It takes virtually no time to set up. Often under a minute from the time you scan the picture in, or download a CAD program until the cutting starts. I ordered the demo DVD and watching the patterns the machine can cut out are amazing. Depending on the complexity of the design, and the thickness of the material, it can cut up to 1,000 inches per minute. The last thread I read said 27 grills could be cut from a 4 x 8 foot sheet of shiny stainless steel. I think after watching the DVD that each grill would only take from one to two minutes to cut out. Labor costs would be minimal.
There have apparently been thousands of the machines sold around the country already. If we can locate a commercial operator or a technical school who has one, we may be able to get the grills cut out considerably cheaper than the current estimates we have. The manufacturer may even be able to put us in contact with a customer of theirs who is willing to consider a proposal.
It also seems to me that if an individual wants to modify the design by moving the pattern to the middle or the top, for even a one-off piece, it is now a feasible option. I hope this info may bring this project a step closer to completion.
