Vulcan trouble starting

Good morning everyone. I am new to bikes and this Vulcan 750 is my first bike that i got for free from a coworker. She gave it away cuz it had trouble starting. I have done my research and worse case scenario, its the stator. But i thought i'd check in with everyone here. Basically all the lights work, it cranks but doesn't turn over. I swapped the regulator, charged the battery and still, doesnt start. My next step would be to clean the carbs, maybe something's up with that. Anyway, anyone have any ideas?

Hi

Hi,

Please go to the Newbie thread and introduce yourself That being said, if you have a fully charged battery and the bike won't start it is not the stator. The stator could very well be bad, but it won't keep the bike from starting with a fully charged good battery. You said it cranks but won't turn over ? Cranking and turning over is kinda the same thing. So you mean it cranks and turns over but it won't start ? Where did you get the regulator you swapped out, are you sure it is a good one ? First thing I would check is make sure it has spark. Pull a plug out, put the plug wire back on it, hold the end of the plug to ground on the engine block or head, and in low light conditions see if you see a spark when you crank it over. Good starting point. Welcome to the forums.

FYI :
Kawasaki introduced the 750 cc class Vulcan worldwide in 1985. Due to tariff restrictions in the United States on bikes over 700 cc imported from Japan, the initial US spec model was limited to 699 cc. The tariff was lifted in 1986 and the Vulcan went to 749cc.

Um, Do not "Hold the end of the plug to ground" with your hand, it will shock the crap out of you. Use an insulated screwdriver or pliers to hold the plug to the engine.

If you have spark, make sure you're getting fuel. You try starting with the choke?

lol

lol, been checking for spark holding plug in my hand for 40 years never been shocked.....You cant hold on to the electrode if the boot and wire is on it, and if the boot and wire is not on it there is no spark in the spark plug.....Guess if you hold it just right where the boot meets the plug you could get shocked, but there is no Amperage so it won't hurt you, unless of course you hurt easy.... I won't get hesitant to post because of your attacks KM, and there have been more than one.

I got shocked once when i let my pinky finger get too close to the tip. Took a min to figure out what i did wrong because I've never been shocked holding a plug boot.

That was an "attack"? Seriously?
If you hold the spark plug by the boot as One1 said, no you won't get shocked. But you didn't say that. You said "hold the end of the plug"...you know, where the electode could be...as there is no clarity on what part of the spark plug is "the end"..... I'm sure you're experienced enough not to let a finger get too close, but you're giving instructions to someone that may have never done this.
So if you somehow think my post was some kind of personal attack, you better get used to it. Because any time you (or anyone else) gives instructions to a member that I think are not completely safe I plan on correcting it.

he might not be talking about this one time as an attack. as for the advice on things that aren't completely safe,do you also correct yourself as well ? yes,who moderates Misser Masser Moderator? EDIT-Notice,he said, and I quote" more than one"
