right leg nerve pain when riding stock seat

Hi, '03 vulcan 750. Stock seat. Have begun to get a right leg pain when riding. Goes all the way down to foot (maybe siattica).Starts about 5 minutes after I start riding. Never have it any other time doing anything else. Figure it must be how the seat contacts under my leg. Any thoughts what I can do to the seat or to the bottom of my upper leg to possibly stop this. Thanks

Hi bbar, sciatica is actually indicative of a lower back problem such as a herniated disc or stenosis of the spine. If you truly believe this to be sciatic nerve pain, I'd recommend visiting your doctor. That said, an aftermarket seat or an Airhawk cushion will likely work wonders for you, as could highway pegs or a backrest.

Kevin brings up a great point, have your back checked out!

The stock seat does suck, though. There are some aftermarket ones you can find second hand occasionally, or you can have someone modify it (like Spencer) who puts in better cushioning and does gel inserts, etc.

Thanks for input. Don't know for sure it's sciatica, however I do have a bulging disc in lower back. Totally livable and no pain or discomfort doing anything else. Interestingly, I put highway pegs and a back rest on last year and that's when the leg discomfort started. Maybe the backrest hitting something? Guess I should try a ride without the backrest. What is the airhawk cushion and where can I get it?

When driving a car with Seatback all the way up, I sit at a 90 degree angle with Torso & Hip....like a "L".
After a couple hours, my right leg.... pain starts and some numbness.
I resolve this issue by notching the seatback recline a few notch's...thus increasing the angle to more than the previous 90 degree angle (of the "L" angle).
Hope I explained that well.............
Maybe some similar sitting angle adjustment will work for others.....on a bike.

Hey bbar,I did the Spencer LD Supracor upgrade,$75 plus shipping on a 25 year old seat. I could not believe the difference it made, and gets better with more seat time. I have had 2crushed vertebrae and an infection. The difference is amazing.I also upgraded to Progressive 412 shocks, love them too.Just my thoughts for my problems. Good luck.
