Unhappy problems starting the motorcycle

Hi I just bought my first bike a couple of months ago. 95 Vulcan vn750.

Had the clutch and basket replaced. Was riding ok but backfiring when I turn it on and would take a while to turn on. This morning it would not turn on. It turns over, back fired a few times and made a low gurgling sound..... but nothing.... anyone have any ideas?

probally same thing Im going through. do you have a maintenance free battery? if not get one. and if it isnt check the fluid levels in your battery, mine was seriously low. fill to line with distilled water and try to put a charge on it. also check your plugs and see if they are fouled. these bike take a lot of juice to start

Thanks! I just replaced both of the air filters a week ago. I took out the battery and it seems to be missing about 20% of it's liquid. So I'll stop by a battery place and pick up liquid and a charger.... dont' have one.....

going on a long ride this weekend if it's runnin......

For a wet cell you can use distilled water for fluid but since you are going to a battery shop, why not get the maintenance free battery? It may seem expensive but after you've pulled the seat off once a week to check the fluid level in the battery and/or had acid spills, you will wish you had the MF battery over a wet cell. That and starting is much, much easier as the MF batteries put out more cold cranking amps than a wet cell.

Thanks, changed the spark plugs and filled the battery... was low and charged it .... also while inspecting the bike, noticed it was missing a carburator screw.... it was the adjustment screw for the carburator, bought it put it in and now its running nice good. .... now to see what will be next lol...
