Which one to buy...

I cannot post pictures on here yet so Ill do my best to describe things. Basically I am newer than new when it comes to riding and this season I want to buy a used cruiser and start. I have wanted to for awhile but just haven't yet.

So I have been keeping an eye on Craigslist as well as local Facebook group pages for ads and so far Ive come across two different 1995 Vulcan 750s. One is real local and I have already checked it out. And by that I mean I sat on it and started it up but I did not ride it since I am not comfortable riding someone else's bike when I am so new. It has 27000 miles on it and he is asking 1750obo. He claims the tires are in good shape, new battery, and the stator was replaced.

The second bike is two hours away and I have not seen it in person. The owner claims 21000 original miles on the bike but he and a friend who owns a custom shop local to him rebuilt the motor. He stated they were cleaning oxidization and it was easier to take apart and use a rebuild kit while they were at it to prevent needing it in the future. So the motor currently has 1500 miles since the rebuild. Among new brakes, plugs, tires, fresh oil and a nice paint job it looks real clean in pics.

The local bike runs, started right up with a little help from the choke but it is clearly not in as clean of shape on the outside. The other Id basically be going off of his word and a two hour drive after paying for a uhaul to get down there and back with the bike.

These prices are low so I cant expect a new motorcycle but I want to avoid having it run for a short while and then having to fix major issues while it sits in a garage.

Any tips or suggestions or considerations would be helpful.

Keep in mind this would be my first motorcycle and my main goal is to learn to ride and enjoy it without taking on another payment for a new(er) bike.

Thank you

I'd go with the local one too....

Rebuilding a motor at only 27,000 sounds suspicious to me...

Sounds like it may have sat out in the weather for a number of years.

Thanks for the input. I wanted to lean towards the local option for convenience but it appears that may be the better option anyway.

that bike looks fine, except the color. but we cant all have the fast one!!

i would check for rust in the tank and look at the tires and the tread to see if you are at least going to get one season out of them. id also ask to see the air filters. if they have never been replaced they could be pretty degraded. if the filter starts disintegrating and gets sucked in to your fuel system you could have lots of problems. if you dont know much about were to look for signs of leaks and whatnot, those are some pretty simple things to look at that are straight forward.
