Question Part out, junk, or fix?

Not sure what to do with my bike. It has 24k miles on it. Recently tore apart engine to replace head gasket and every other plastic or rubber part inside.

Had it running for a little bit, but have had constant problem with mechanical seal. Originally leaked AF, took it apart and replaced impeller (one side of seal) and the mechanical seal. Did not initially leak anything, then started leaking coolant, then added oil, now it smells as though gas is also coming out.

If I knew the issue, and it was reparable, I would do it. But it seems like there is no one good answer, so I consider parting it out, or junking/scrapping it.

All thoughts, suggestions, and ideas are welcome.

I was away from this board for a few years while I had my Meanie. Back in the day, there seemed to be a higher degree of technical help here than now.

Jon

Not quite sure of your intended meaning with the above statement but I do remember you being more active at one point and then you were quiet for a time. Maybe some of the other active technical minded members have done the same as you or it could be that the vast majority of needed answers can be found using the search option available. There is a vast number of great videos and full write ups with pictures to tear most any portion or complete VN750 contained here without long drawn out technical answers. I also do not read too many if any posts asking for further or deeper answers once several opinions are given as to a remedy. Maybe I am misreading your comments. Believe me, I am not trying to say you are wrong but rather unsure what exactly you mean by your words. If there is something lacking I hope wiith your renewed attention here it can be improved. Welcome back.

Since I've not had to deal with this problem, I can't help a lot, other than to say ...

I recall someone in the past couple of years that posted about a new mech. seal continuing to leak. Seems like there was some little trick or fix the poster did that finally got the leak stopped.

I know the search here can be a pain to use, but I've dug up some good info using it. Just have to deal with wading through the results.

It just seemed like if you had a question or problem, there were more/faster responses available than now. Please factor in a degree of frustration I am going through which always will cloud ones thinking.

That is a possibility considering the amount of crud that I encountered inside the impeller shaft tunnel. Wish I had thought of that while the engine was out as replacing it then would've been a snap. Now it's a pull and split deal.

I searched every combination of mechanical seal, water pump leak, etc. that I could think of and did not see the light. It is out there, just have to figure out how to find it.

Just went 10 pages deep in one search, didn't find what I was looking for.

This forum has had years worth of posts disappear at random recently.

About the only item I saw was talking about using the proper sized tool to drive the seal in, otherwise it could distort the metal or no seat it properly. Still not the post I had in mind.
