Mystery noise when taking off

Roughly every 1 in 10 times I take off from a dead stop, I get this sort of rubbing or grinding noise for a split second. It happens within the first 3 feet of my taking off and goes away very quickly. It feels like it's right under the seat or towards the rear tire. It is not consistent so it's tough for me to duplicate it when I'm trying to get the noise to happen. Any ideas?

Sounds like it to me.

If you move the clutch lever some right after a cold start it can help keep that from happening. Clutch tends to grab hard when it happens.

After reading the original post again, it could be splines if it's happening after it's warmed up. He said 1 in 10 dead stops, so it sounds like it's doing it all day.

If it only happens when cold, I'd go for coffee grinder syndrome.

I think the Seafoam in the oil helped my coffee grinder, only did it once this summer, and last year it was every morning.
