Mpg per rpm
Im negotiating with my company i work for about the mpg on my bike for fuel reimbursement. They said they would reimburse for 45 mpg. But that is average between city and hw. The problem is 90% of my commute is hw which is over 5k and im only getting 35 mpg... im losing money weekly. Does anyone have any sources i can use to prove that im getting 35?
Thanks,
Holiday

*I* dont know of anything.
but, an engine turning 5k rpm with 0 load (read neutral, not moving) will use much less fuel than one moving a vehicle at whatever speed.

All you have to do is document fuel purchases and mileage, you can then calculate mpg yourself. Everyone rides different, so their mpg will differ. There are apps for your phone to help (fuelly is one) if you have a smart phone.
That being said, your company is being way cheap. I get $0.51/mi no matter what vehicle I take.

Perhaps you're not a good negotiator.....
There's this...
http://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/kaw...50a_vulcan_750
They should pay you a rate per mile....as there is "wear and tear" on your vehicle from riding it everyday that's seperate from just gas mileage.
My wife gets .38 (cents) a mile for using her car (you can also deduct this on your taxes if your company doesn't reimburse you)
Most employers don't pay you for gas consumption going to, and going home from work....so it's hard to me to agree "you're losing money" here.
I don't get paid squat. (But I do deduct it on my taxes)

Yeah, I don't get paid to ride into work, only if I have to go to another site.

Stock exhaust and stock air filters, I am getting 55 mpg with a max speed of 60 mph, the engine purring 3500 or so. If you are running up into the 5,000 rpm range, mpg will drop off.
