Licence Plate Stolen?

I ran into town, Peoria Illinois on a couple errands Saturday. When I got home I noticed my plate was missing. I thought I must have lost it but got to wondering what the chances of loosing both screws at the same time. Is stealing license plates something that happens?

Sure does. But then again I make it a point to check my various fasteners every so often too.

They do sell tamper resistant screws for plates, so it must happen.

Seems like you would have heard a rattle after it only had one screw dangling. Mine has four screws since I'm using a frame. They'll probably steal mine to get the chrome spikes, frame, and lights. If mine falls off, I'll probably drag it for a whole by the wires for the lights.

Would probably pay to report the plate as stolen. Someone with a no-title bike is probably using your plate.

Yes both screws can come loose at the same time and I have seen it happen more than once as we found a friends plate on the side of the road while making a trip a few years back luckily. But stealing license plates or anything else that didn't belong to some one? Never happen there or any other place within the USA. How can you think that there are some people around that would do such a thing? I have seen some riders use lock washers that have been bent a bit more to add pressure, thick rubber washers, double nuts, lock nuts with the nylon inserts and even crown nuts with the threaded screw portion drilled to accept a small cotter pin or wire (not too visible when on the back of the plate).

and always remember, "Ride until you rot!"
**Really not sure if the Big "C" is back right now
but having to face the fact that this is a lifetime routine
going forward. Five operations done and it still continues.

I was talking about my old VN. On my sporty the license plate is engineered using special blue paint to take the Doppler effect into account because red light can't keep up with the intense acceleration.

Same. Threw some red loctite on the bolts and haven't had a problem since.
