2000 Vn 750

Hi,

I'm thinking of buying a used VN750. I have a link to craigslist but I'm not sure if I can post that here.

Basically, what should I be looking for in a used VN750? Any known problems with this model?

Thanks!

The 750 is a great bike. I would recommend that you take a look through the Vulcan Verses, there is a lot of great info there. From experience I would suggest that you check out the charging system. Do a quick test. Remove the seat and put a multimeter on the battery while the bike is running and make sure that the voltage increases as the RPM increases. With the RPM at 5K you should be seeing around 14.5 VDC. Operating range above 2K RPM should be between 13.5 ad 14.5 VDC. Problems with the charging system can be expensive, even if you do the work yourself, not to mention time consuming.

Also, take a look into the gas tank to make sure that there isn't rust evident. In addition, I would find out if the bike has been sitting for any length of time. If so you may need to clean the fuel system components. Another thought just occurred to me, make sure there is a maintenance free battery on the bike. If not see if you can get the owner to include one, or negotiate the price down accordingly. Finally, find out what if any modifications have been made, when, and by whom, and find out what maintenance has been done. I would ask specifically if the drive splines have been lubed.

These are just a few things off the top of my head. Please check the Verses though. As I said before, there really is a lot of great info there. I have an '89 and I love the bike! Good luck!

Or, try THIS link. It'll take you right to the "Used VN 750 Bike Check" part of the Verses.

Don't let the numorous post of problems discourage you from the bike.
Sites like this attract a lot of problems trying to be solved, but you rarely here all the good times people have on the bike.

Good luck to ya.

Right on Buzz,

I have had my fare share of problems with mine when i first got her..but i wouldn't trade her for any other. in fact my wife wants me to buy a bigger bike so we both can ride comfortably, I told her to buy her own VN 750...
