Different Oil Filters for model year?

So I have checked previous threads and outside websites, and it appears as if there are discrepencies between which oil filters to use for different model years. I have a 93' VN 750, and I am getting different information on which oil filter to use. It seems as if the 93's are right on the cusp of different oil filter measurements!!!!!!! Can anyone plleeeasssee help...........
Thanks,

The only differences in what's recommended for different years should be in the length of the filters.
Any filter which is recommended for any year 750 Vulcan will work for any other year Vulcan.

What Hyper said! Kaw superceded the larger filter with a smaller one at some point. Aside from the outer size, nothing else changed. I just went through this with my stealer, and he confirmed that any filter for any year should work just fine. I prefer the larger for my '89, just seems to me that a larger filter provides more surface area and will filter better. IMHO

I noticed the size difference last week when I was picking up a new filter from the Kaw shop. They told me the same thing that the larger filter was changed to this smaller one and it be no problem. It went on ok but I prefer the larger filter too...

Hmm, very interesting, I think I had always been sold the small one... Is there a different part number, I would prefer the larger one due to more filter and cooling area...
Thanks and have a good one...Old Dog...

The Kaw part number originally was 16097-1054 (the larger filter), superceded by 16097-0004 (the smaller filter). These pn's are for all tears through '94. After that they look like they are all over the place! Lots of superceded pn's. The current pn, however, for all model years is 16097-0004 (the smaller filter). I can say with certainty that -1054 is the larger one. As far as aftermarket goes, the supertech filter pn's are ST3593a for the larger one, and ST7317 for the smaler one.

The two Purolator filters to use are PL14612(2.5 inches long) and PL14610(3.25 inches long), the longer is recommended.

I always use the PL14610 on both of my bikes.

Chris,
Do you just spin your filters on, or do you paint them before using them? Just curious.
