Yup, you never know when it will happen

Today on my way to work. I was coming up to a train crossing, with a truck traveling in front of me. As he entered the crossing the lights started flashing. I stopped and he put it in reverse and backed into me. Bike; windshield, front turn signal, clutch lever bent under grip. Still 'rideable', kind of LOL. Me; nothing broken, just bruised up.

Glad you're ok! Sorry to hear about your VN, though. If the from forks aren't bent you can probably cheaply replace most of those parts, but sounds like insurance will sort it all out for you!

Yes not worried. He told the cop that he backed into me, has good insurance, and even picked my bike up and took it off the road. Not many parts to get on the road, just the windshield was kind of pricey. We will see, I have no faith in insurance companies.

Glad you're OK. I've never suffered anything like that, yet, but I've had a few close calls.

I tend to get really mad at people for driving like idiots, now, more than I used to. That kind of stuff can get you killed.

Panic? No just was not paying attention and talking with his wife. He should have just kept going, he was past the first crossing arm, and they had not even dropped yet. Had a good 15 seconds before the train arrived.

The same thing happened to me when I was much younger. I stopped right behind a full-size pickup, too close, he felt he was sticking out too far into the intersection and backed up. His bumper was just the right height to catch the top of my front tire and wedge it so I couldn't move as he started crunching backward through my fender. I'm not sure what made him stop but he finally did before he got to my forks.
