Kick stand issues

Hi guys.

So first, I am new to riding so take that in consideration here.

My kickstand is giving me all kinds of headaches. I have dropped the bike 3xs because it is really leaning enough (in my mind) to hold up the bike and any little movment causes it to fold up.

I see there is some thing that stops it from going any more forward and that device has a tube coming off of it. See pics

What is this device, can it be adjusted, and what does the tube coming off of it do?

That thingamajig is the kickstand safety switch. If you were to put your bike in gear with the kickstand down that guy would kill the engine. That's assuming it is working properly.

it's sounding like you don't have the kickstand all the way forward when you are trying to use it. If there is more than just the tiniest wobble in the kickstand I'd look at tightening up that bolt that holds it on. They aren't really adjustable because of how it mounts to the bike.

if you are still having trouble with your bike falling over, consider using the center stand.

Welcome btw...how's about popping over the new member section and introducing yourself? Be sure to let us know a little about you. Where are you from? What year is your bike? Do you have any experience working on bikes or cars? What do you like to do in your free time?

Should the silver nipple in front of the rubber ring move when the kick stand orders up against it because it doesn't.. It completely is set in place and acts like a metal stop bar keeping it from going any more forward

It only moves a tiny bit, just enough to close the switch inside the housing. It's not actually stopping the kickstand from moving, the bracket is doing that.

Not sure if you are saying it's not leaning over enough, or, too far.

If too far....Sometimes do to age or misuse the stand gets loose because it wears a hole bigger than the bolt holding it. Only recourse here is to buy a bigger bolt and drill it out round again.

If not enough, sounds like the bike was lowered. The stand should swing past 90 degrees, there's a metal stop in the bracket that holds the stand. Unless the switch is somehow frozen it should move a bit when the stand goes up and down.

You do have to push the stand forward, NOT just down before you lean the bike over.

Are you leaving the bike in gear when you park it.?

as mentioned, the stand will be past 90 degrees from verticle when extended.

I nearly had mine fall off the stand one time (luckily I was still next to the bike and I grabbed it). from that point on, I always pull the bike to the rear after the kickstand is on the ground, it makes sure that its fully forward.

when working properly, in order for the kickstand to retract, the bike actually has to be raised slightly as the stand rotates past the 90 degree mark. the weight of the bike will prevent this in normal circumstances. Again, park it with it in gear!
