Question Fork tube discoloration??

I had the bike out today and noticed how bad the bottoms of my fork tubes are discolored. It looks almost like a yellowish layer of scum, but it is glossy. I couldn't find any previous posts about this. Anyone else have the same problem? Does anyone know how to fix this?? Thanks!

I believe Kawasaki applied a clearcoat over the lower forks to preserve the metal and keep it from dulling or corroding. To fix you will need to strip off the old clearcoat and apply new. Or as some have done, paint them black or paint to match the tank.

Mine have some yellowing as well. I plan to paint them when I repaint the tank and fenders.

When I do my fork maintenance I plan on painting them black. Someone not too long ago did a really good job and posted the steps on theirs. They painted them black and they turned out great!

dirtrack650... That sounds to me like the way to go... Buff them up good and apply a clear coat... I don't want black when I can have a chrome looking finish anyway... Of course that is why they make chocolate & grape (couldn't spell vanilla)...lol...
Have a good one...Old Dog...

Yep, forgot who did it, but they took off the clearcoat and polished the lower fork tubes to a mirror finish. Lotta work, but looked good.

(they also did the rear hub..very nice..)
