Seat Mods

Well got started late on my winter mods.Been laid up since Dec.20th with back and leg injury from braking up a fight at work (DAME Inmates). But starting to get around a little better so I got started on the seat.Sliced off the back rest section and formed some plastic and used epoxy plastic weld and some mesh spackle tape to secure it and strenthen the seams.Patched in the foam using NAPA general purpose spray adhesive.Used my small angle grinder with a scotch brite pad to form the foam and contour the seating areas.Mocked up some fender struts that I'll be making out of 1/4"plate aluminium and polishing. Also mocking up a quick detachable backrest for when the wife or one of the kids ride with me.LED taillight lic.plate mount, seat covering, should be here by the end of the week and I can get everything set so I can tear it all apart to weld up the left over hole in the fender and repaint.

Looking good, Brian. Can't wait to see it finished.
I have an extra seat I've been wanting to do something with, just not sure what yet.

What's the main purpose of shaving a seat down? Is it for the possible added back support? Does it increase or decrease the sitting comfort (not talking about back support specifically here)? If the actual sitting comfort is decreased does the better back support make up for it?
Aside from looks, I'm wondering what the main benefit is....

Some people do so that they can reach the ground with thier feet. Most of us do it for looks. It gives the seat better shape after having been cut up.

Thanks for all the complements guys!!! The reason for this seat mod was for passenger comfort first and looks second.Gained almost 3" of room back there. Then made the drivers section a little more comfortable with some added foam and re-shaping.
