Question Our frame on other bikes?

Hey all! I've bee pondering the conversion of my stock seat to something else. Pretty much custom. (winter project). But as I sit and look at the bike with the seat & sissy bar off, I wondered if this frame was maybe used in another model? The main reasoning for this thought is the cross support that would be positioned under the passenger portion of the frame. There is two threaded holes and one empty hole. I can find no relavance for them to be there on this bike. Now, I may be wrong but I don't think a manufacturer would deligate the time & cost to drill millions of holes just to make me ask questions. Like using this frame for say an 800, Does any one have a clue? Thanks in advance.

It's possible that these holes were used as frame supports during manufacture and are not used once it's put together. Just a theory.

Using the Ron Ayer's "Where does this part fit? " search feature, it's only a Vulcan 750 frame.

Yeah, I didn't think of that. See, more heads are better than one. Well, back to the thinking part.
Any Idea where one could go to experiment with different seats. A custom bracket isn't the concern, it's the space a seat fills. I'm currently scouring ebay for measurements & ideas. Something has to sit right. Just a matter of what. It would be cool to find a bike junkyard local & check out there stock!? Hey, that's an Idea. Thanks!

I just finished an ulpholstry class and am trying to find a junk seat or seatpan to play with. All of them on e-bay are gold plated at some of the yards prices.

Bingo; give the man a medal. The two threaded holes are the mounting holes for the second generation luggage rack. The larger central one was probably used for positioning in the welding jig.

However... the front part of the frame, at least, from the swingarm forward, started life designed for another bike; witness the removable portion being on the wrong side. Anecdotal evidence is that Kaw needed to get a 700cc bike in production, like _right now_, because of Harley's lobbying for import tax changes, and used what they had available to cobble together something they could get across the Pacific quick.

This begs the question(s), "What bike did they rob the frame from, and was _that_ bike ever produced, or was it's frame diverted completely to VN700/750 production?". At this point, with production ceased, we may never know, unless someone happens to make a connection somewhere...like out in a salvage yard.
