Bike wont start all of a sudden

So its been starting fine all summer ut today all of a sudden it won't start. I go to start as normal, but it is just making a ticking noise and will catch once and nothing. Then just more ticking and nothing else. I put my trickle charger on just to top up my battery. Any ideas?

Its either my battery or my starter I'm thinking...i hope its just my battery

I think we jump to the starter on these bikes to fast. I rebuilt mine and it seems to be a pretty robust piece of equipment that would take a long long time to fail.

Will it start hooked to a car battery (car off), or start if you roll-start it?

All fixed! I put a new battery in it and it starts better than ever! So time will now tell if this was a bad battery or a bad charging system. I've had the bike for 5 years and this is the first new battery I have put in slash changed on this bike. Thanks guys.

I hope you invested in an AGM battery....almost twice the cost, but lasts sooooooo much longer...higher CCAs too....helps up by you in colder weather....
