Excluding obvious tread wear, what is the suggested time interval for replacing tires? Mine (Dunlop Elite II's) have very good tread -and still have the "whiskers" - but the DOT date on the rear is 4 years old (the front is 2 years). Assuming there is still good tread, how many years can a tire be used safely before it is replaced? Thanks in advance!
I would watch the side walls for the tel tail dry rot cracking.
It would depend on how much time it is in the sun.
I got just under 10k on my stock tires and now have almost 15k on my MEtzlers and they still look great.

I would agree with Chad on that, especially watch the older tire... I had a Firestone dealer tell me that the dry rot cracks on my boat trailer were only cosmetic, I lost one on the interstate doing about 75mph in a slight curve and it almost cost me a Ranger Bass boat and my pickup + could have got me and others, they are NOT to be over looked IMO...
Have a good one...Old Dog...
