Bike paint color matching

Where would I find the color code for my bike (96 red/black - actually the same exact color as the one at the top of the page but my side covers are chromastic)? I tried looking in the manuals (MOM and Haynes) and didn't find it. I want to eventually paint my bike but for now I need some touch up paint. Thx in advance!

Go to your local auto paint store and it should be listed in their books along with a color chip.

Thanks for the quick reply! It was as easy as 1-2-3 to find the code. Off to AutoZone...

Brotha, you ain't gonna find it there! You've got three choices:

1) Buy touch-up paint from Maw Kaw

2) Buy it from Color-Rite

3) Take the scoot down to your local automotive _paint_ store; not parts house (which Auto-Zone isn't--it's an accessory store). Most of the Sherwin-Williams, DuPont, Martin-Senour (NAPA, made by S-W) have a camera they can place on the bike and take a picture. They feed that into thier computer and come up with a color matched mixing formula.

Helluva lot cheaper than Color-Rite...

To quote several people - I definitely am not going to the stealership. I guess I'll just order from Color Rite if the local SW doesn't have it. There's a store right near the house so we'll see what they say. Other than the new fairing, the only thing I have that needs touching up is a nice big rock chip on the fender.

Fairing? You've got a fairing? Wot kinda fairing???

BTW, that "red and black" is actually two different kinds of red; one's Cosmic Splendor Red (the "black") and the other's Candy Cardinal Red.

I've got a Vetter Rooster fairing I need to get a windshield for one of these days, or make one for it. Too much money for one of those on eBay, tho.
