85 vulcan starter turns over but motor won't please help

I bought this bike off of an old man who said it sat for ten years, some pieces are missing like the flat tube where the carbs get hooked up to filters. Alot of rotted tubes. I already tried acetone and atf mixer to free up cylinders and can now get the bike to roll backwards with alot of effort. When I try it by the starter it turns but motor wont. Can someone please help me?? I don't want to put a lot of money in it if the motor is bad... Any help would be great or a good cheap mechanic would be nice who knows about these bikes and could make house call (maybe) in Cincinnati area

First....please attempt to use punctuation in your posts.....run-on sheit pisses off old men like me....which constitutes over 1/2 this board....

Honestly....I didnt understand barely ANY of your post....Try to write concisely, to the point, and use punctuation....IF you really want help....

Just so you know...the VN700 is a much better engine than the VN750...I'll give ya $100 bucks fer it....

Not for sale at this time (RARE)

Ummmm..... Let me think about it...... Hmmmm...... How about No.... I paid more than that for it thanks. I'm guessing the starter clutch isn't engaging or something... HELP with problem would be good . Thank you. Don't need help selling. Nor thinking about selling not considered at this time. Thanks

...good....since the 700 was only made for one year, they can be rare....thank you for posting a more concise post.....

And since this Old man owns a 700.....thats now worth over 3k....lets get down to your problem....

The problem once again is.....

Starter spins good.....

Motor not turning over....

My question is what needs to be repaired or replaced in order for motor to turn over with starter ???

Again this is my first bike... I plan on keeping it.... I just need help to get it going... Thanks..

I've rebuilt a lot of two stroke dirt bikes and 4 wheelers and this doesn't compare.... Any help would be great...

Cool....there is a thead in the electrical section on starters/issues/rebuilds...my old one skipped sometimes....make sure the starter itself is tight....if its not that, you may need to remove it which will require you to drain the oil as well....more than likely, the internals just need a good cleaning...there isnt any "Bendix" type of thing...

Can a mod please move this to the electrical section ????

The first thing I would do is remove the left side stator cover to get to the crank bolt. 17mm socket on a ratchet should be able to turn the motor over by hand, counterclockwise. Make sure the motor isn't fully stuck. If it's sat for 10 years, the rings could be frozen to the bores. If it proves to be stuck. a little ATF down the sparkplug holes could free it up after a few days. Make sure the motor will spin and then look into the starter issues. Just my $.02

I have atf and acetone mix in cylinder head for now and I let it soak a day, still very hard to roll backwards in 1st gear. I use a 12v jump box to turn starter over. I have been trying to turn over by wheel because someone stripped out side cover screws and I cant even turn the one that isn't stripped out. Does anyone have a good parts bike they would like to sell
