Paint for sale or leave it as-is?

I have two VN750s and I'm selling one soon. Both of mine were CL ripoffs and I wanted to advertise as "needs nothing to ride", so I went through everything to make sure they're mechanically sound. Rebuilt carbs with new diaphragms, other new parts and cables as needed, 900 seat, chrome turn signals, ear shave/jet/coaster, spline lube, things like that.

Since I might end up selling to someone on here, I was wondering what you guys think about painting it vs. selling as-is. It's an 86, black with the factory vinyl worn through and some flaking and surface rust just around the filler. I was thinking of painting it straight black, maybe some faint ghost flames in green, black cherry, or blurple pearl and upping the price a little. Or should I sell it cheaper and let the buyer paint it how they want it or ride it looking like crap?

You'd probably feel better if you painted it.if you do a good job you might get some word of mouth if that's something you're interested in.but If you're like me you won't wanna sell it after you paint it

Sounds like a pretty bike.
Present paint does not sound too bad.
Depends on the buyer.....buyer may not care for your color or custom tank paint.
Not sure if it would bring much more $$$ wise.
Your bike, your pet project, your additional time & $$$ involved.....

Seems like a good option to be left to the buyer... Sell it to you as is for $xxx or I can paint it for you for an extra $xxx.

At least they then could choose the color or whatever...

Leave the paint to the buyer in my opinion.

[/SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] The mini-skirt is a very functional article of clothing. With it a woman can run much faster; and because of it she may have too.

Again.....

Personally I wouldn't paint it. It's a 27 year old bike that's worth what? A grand? Anyone looking at it is likely looking for a bargain. A fancy paint job doesn't really make the bike worth more. They'll still look at the Bluebook value for a 86 and go from there....

(As you didn't say what you're selling the bike for or how much more you would charge for repainting it)

Myself I wouldn't be looking for resale value.I'd just paint it.as long as I get what I got in it I don't care.there's someone out there riding something I did

Hoping it's worth a little more than a grand with a brand new tire, carb diaphragms, shave/jet/coasters, 900 seat and stuff. But that's what I thought, leave it to the buyer. I should have her ready to sell in a week or so.

If its an older VN....leave it as is....them decals cant be had except for NOS....painting over would kill it if the buyer wants original....

Just an example....but an 85 is worth more than a 95 if both are original....the 85s are rare, the 95s common....a properly modded/customed 85 like mine however is priceless, lol....since its the oldest in existance, like me...
