Is bike shop full of crap?

My 750 has lots of miles but is new to me. In the past week i've noticed when i start it up, especially in the morning the engine stutters similar to when it's time to switch to reserve. It feels like someone kicking the transmission. I know that sounds weird but it makes sense in my head. The rpms take a hit and the quickly pop up. When trying to give it gas it really starts to happen until the motor is warm. When stuttering especially when letting off the clutch it wants to stall.

Describing it to the dealer when trying to cash in on my initial 30 days warranty (considering going for the ASC extended warranty but am not sure yet) he asked me what gas i was running. I told him 87 and he was all "That is probably you're problem, I'd never run anything less than 93 in ANY motorcycle. There is too much water and ethanol in regular 87". My bs meter went off but i'm not versed enough in bikes to know for sure.

Can someone please enlighten me before they try to take me for a "ride".

Just about everyone her will say just the opposite, not to use anything but 87. He's full of it!

I've seen a couple of other 750's on the road and have wondered if they'd show up on this site.

definitely agree with the others. No need to run anything other then 87 in the bike. These are not high compression performance engines, and there is no need to run the higher octane. Your just waiting money if you run anything else.

Issue could be dirty jets. Could try back blowing the carbs. Precedure Here

If that doesn't cut it, disconnect the two larger lines from the petcock, drain the fuel from the carbs, and then pour some Seafoam straight into the carbs through the fuel lines and let it sit overnight. Drain the Seafoam, reconnect the lines and give it another go.

Not sure about the engine stuttering when you let out the clutch. Could be the safety switches at either the clutch lever or side stand partially failing? Might also be the clutch cable needing adjusted.

......I'd rather wake up in the middle of nowhere then in any city on earth.
