Unhappy frame number

Just bought the clymer repair manual. Trying to figure out which model vulcan I have. The frame number is not listed in the manual!?!?

I have an engine from '89 (it says in German: "Baujahr 1989" on the metalplate on the engine) - although the dealer was told from the previous owner that this was an '88 model!?!?!?

But as told before: Can't find my frame number in the Clymer manual, - maybe not that essential, but more than one place are the forums and manufacturers talking about U.S. and Canadian/Californian/Swiss/UK - models, - and I don't know the difference.

This is my question: Can anyone tell me whick model is this bike with a frame number staring with
JKAENGA - will tell some more if necessary, but wont display all numbers!

KAWASAKI.COM: "We could not find a match on the VIN provided. Please correct and try again." Maybe they only have info on warranti and recalls??

Using the web site above, (Owner's Manuals, Warranty & More, then Need Help Identifying your VIN/HIN), and looking at the service manual pages (down loadable from http://tocmanufacturing.com/toc.htm) - they must not show the european model.

so - what you mean is, that the site you mention can't help me identifying, if I got a European model?

The kawasaki website for germany is kawasaki.de

Ich spreche nicht Deutsches, but I do know how to use babblefish - tried hunting a bit but wasn't finding anything.

I'd search on kawasaki.de to see if a german synonym of "owner info" or manual (as in clymers/ kawasaki service manual) pops anything up. Searching for owner info on kawasaki.com pops up the link that loran posted. No guarantee that the german site is as comprehensive. You might also search on the other european sites http://www.kawasaki-europe.com/ depending on which languages you know.

When all is said and done, however, it doesn't matter for most practical purposes. At least on the US models, very little changed in the 20 year production run.

I would think there's possibly a difference in the wiring harness and probably pollution parts. Didn't someone across the pond recently mention the models over there have a headlight on/off switch? Might be similar to the early US models with turnsignal cancelling wiring not being compatible with later models.

Just a guess, but something that may need to be considered if ever ordering/ebaying out of the Country parts.

Guess I said it wrong...

What I MEANT was that it shouldn't matter what YEAR european bike it is - not if it was a US or german bike. And that since the US bike didn't change much over 20 years, the european bike probably didn't change much either.

That makes sense. I just never really thought about the possible differences between Vulcans from either side of the big pond.
