My last tank was 48 mpg. I've gotten as myuch as 56 and as little as 46. Stock pipes and air filters small shield and soft saddle bags. It really depends on how I ride. I'm usually fairly 'sedate' but I do occasionally crank her up and that's wehn I get the 46 to 48 mpg.

Man, I must be a speed freak or I am way out of tune...I get 35-38 if I am lucky. I was getting worse until I leaned the carbs.

My ride to work is 12 miles each way 9 miles on the highway, I do 65-70 on the highway traffic moves too fast to do 55.

What is the best thing for mileage highway or back roads? And my back roads have lots of stop lights and intersections.

Unhappy

This last weekend I drove about 280 miles and averaged around 40 mpg. This seems low compared to some of the numbers that you guys are posting. I have stock everything and ride at mostly 60 - 65 mph on flat KS surfaces. I also have a medium size shield like a v-force or something similar. I am using Mobil 1 15w-50 in my case and mid grade 89 octane gas. Anyone have an idea to try?

Hi Guys.........I have a 2006, iridium plugs, Nat. Cycle Street shield EX, Mobile one MX4T 10-40 motorcycle syn oil, Marbled, carbs set at 3 1/4 & 3 3/4 out, & get from 51 mpg to 61 mpg. The 61 was on a all day scenic drive at 30 to 55 MPH. The 51 + is everyday driving.

Last three tanks......51+....53+.....60.87 to be exact.........

BUT----------If you are a throttle jockey........hard accels...........freeway or any speed above 65 to God knows what................This is where your MPG's are going! (unless you have carb problems( Also, drop back to 87 octane & you will get better combustion & cleaner running. You guys that are running higher than 87 octane are just wasting your loot & hurting MPG & performance. 89 0r 92 octane slows the burn rate down & actually retards your timing through the higher octane fuel. If you take your plugs out, I would bet that they are blacker than a Raccoon's hiney! (Poor combustion & retarded timing).

I know what I am talking about, so don't argue!!!!!!

Also.....No flaming as I have locked out all flames on my puter.....

I got 55 mpg once on a stretch of road in the hill country where I might have reached 55 a couple times but stayed in the 34-45 mph range, so I can say it's possible, even with a 265 lb redneck on it. I probably average around 60 mph on my daily driving and have been getting around 45 average.

I'll bet, just guessing, ... you weigh less than 265 Tcat???

My 02 has iridiums, marbled, etc... too. Just for the record.

AND......further more......you Southern Rednecks probably do a lot more stopping than us Michiganders do!

(Taverns, BBQ joints ETC.) Hurts mileage ya know........

Wife & I were driving our Goldwing pulling a trailer headed to Abilene, & damn near hit a MOO COW crossing the road, so TX is not my favorite State among several other reasons!

We only have Bear, Deer & wild Turkeys to look out for. (Well, stupid four wheelers too)

I ride a motorcycle because I like the roar of the pipes, the feel of fast acceleration, the feeling of balance, so my mileage is poor for a mc, about 25-35, but on the highway I get around 45 mpg loaded down.
