5000 mile check up

Hi Folks,
I'm thinking about taking my 2006 VN750 to the dealer for a 5000 mile check up. It's a little more than a year old. I change my own oil, but am not really that good with anything else. Any advice, what are the major things I should check if I do it myself. The bike runs great. Dealer charges $180.00 with the oil change.
Thanks in advance
Wayne
PS...took my first overnighter....HWY 1 from Talahina, Oklahoma to Hot Springs, Arkansas over the top of the Kiamichi Mntns........WOW!!

Why?, There really ain't much they will do other than change the oil. ($180.00 for this?)

Keep your money, Change your oil and filter. Check your tire pressure. Put some Seafoam in your tank. Go for a ride, you are done...

KM is right. I've got 4,500 miles on my 06 and called the dealer today (before reading this post) inquiring about the 5,000 mile service. To my surprise the dealer asked if I was having any problems with the bike and then stated at 5,000 miles nothing major was needed. He said they would change the oil, check tires, and change final gear oil for $85.00. I just changed my oil 10 days ago and added seafoam to the tank last weekend so I decided to pass on the dealer service for now.

SPLINES people! SPLINES!!
But you can do that real easy with Fergy's write-up.
You do not have to have the dealer perform scheduled maintenance as long as you keep the records and receipts from you doing the job yourself.
One additional thing is to check over all of your connections and bolts.
Clean and repack connections, make sure bolts, motor mounts, cable connectors are tight and torqued to specs.

Excellent, thanks for the advice, as always, very useful. I'll save my money and maybe buy that overpriced seat extender my better-half insists I need
