Tail light LEDs

After reading thru several previous threads, and also looking in the Vulcan verses...I was just wondering...did any of you guys/gals ever find an LED bulb (or LED cluster) out there that fits inside the stock VN750 tail light lense--and is noticeably brighter than our stock 1157 tail light bulbs???

Or is everything currently available for this ap basically a waste of time (and money)?.....

Thanks.....!

I've heard most people mention that during the daytime, the LEDs aren't all that noticable/bright.
Not sure if that's because of the LEDs themselves or using the stock lens.
If the LED units light up red, the red lens could be problem. If they light up white, it might be better for visability.

Wasn't someone here working on a homemade tail light LED set-up awhile ago?

You can check this out...

http://www.superbrightleds.com/tail-brake-turn.html

They have a Luxeon LED bulb that I think would fit inside the housing of the tail light. This type of LED bulb is very bright and somewhat low power (about 3 watts).

I think the only downside is the price... bit pricey for LED but should last a long time... I'm thinking on getting some for my bike but need to know if I can spend 50 bucks and get them here in Mexico... beyond that it should be a fine selection just make sure you get the dual intensity type...

Well....with all the above said, I was (also) curious if anyone had tried (or seen) the following replacement LED bulbs in action:

http://www.jpcycles.com/productgroup...4-8322D4541A9C

Since it's not a cluster, I thought this LED bulb might take better advantage of the VN750 stock lense reflectors. And it should drop right in place of the stock bulbs, without any problems.

Besides feedback on their price--any other comments, anyone?....

Hmm, the SuperBright site say not to use the white LED's w/ red lenses (at least with theirs).
Guess that shoots down my theory posted above.

dont get this one... it is madly under driven!!!! its of ok brightness at running, but not bright enough on brake....

there is a product called BRAKE! which will work.... but its $$$.... right now i am working on something for us... i plan both a direct drop in, and also plan for a aftermarket custom for those of us going to custom tails.... I will also be working up an led equivilant for turn signals... hope to have them by mid march...

Hey, Hizzo...didn't you describe (on another thread) the approx output of our stock tail lights, in lumens? What was that figure, again?

well lumens is one factor... but with signal lights the bigges importance actuall falls under the candela..... or brightness. For example if you have 2 light sources, each producing 10 lumens, but one produces light in a 360 degree radius, vs the other produces the light in a beam of 5 degrees. Your eyes will tell you the 5 degree light is brighter because all the light is coming directly at you, as opposed to being dispersed. also factored into the equation is surface brightness..... anyway, i cant remeber off the top of my head and dont feel like cracking out the calculator again, but i think it came out to around 180-300 lumens. but keep in mind what i mentioned above. to give you comparison. the current led's used in stop lamps on cars, arent producing more then 40-100 lumens, its just being projected much more efficently.

One other thing to watch out for with LED turn signals, is that due to their different resistance, they can screw up the timing of the circuit that makes them flash on and off, and usually require a different driver designed for LED's. Just an fyi.
