Thining about making mantinance Vids.

When i first got here, i loved the pics i could find on mantinance, but they were a lil scarce....but that has gotten better. But the recent post of the ACCT vid has me thinking. What if we went through and made vid's of all the common repairs for other members. every bolt unbolted, ever step taken (well minus the requirements of drinking beer). I am about to repull my engine for the stator cover (my first toc cover seems to have a leak, so they are replacing it ). so i can document that and i will also be ordering tires...

Now would we have the bandwidth to store that on here, or would we need to store the vids elsewhere?

I don't know what technology would be required to do this, but I think that it's an excellent idea! Here are some basic classes that would elicit interest in this online university...
* Maintenance 101 ~ changing the oil and replacing the air filter
* Maintenance 201 ~ lubing the splines
* Maintenance 301 ~ relocating the r/r
* Maintenance 401 ~ removing the engine

It seems like we've had issues with storage space in the past, or was that on the yahoo group? I guess DMAG will have to speak up on this one. I'll bet there are other options though, where we can get some free storage, if we look hard enough. Videos can take up enormous space so it would have to be pretty big, and we'd have to try to keep the videos streamlined. You can always pause a video clip and do the task, then move on.

I know several of us have the capability of editing videos and compressing them to quicktime movies. If we shot them on mini dv, I have my own studio and would be glad to do the editing/compressing and uploading. I can convert from vhs also, plus, I can take dvd footage down to mini dv for editing, so just about any media will do.

Why not post them on YouTube, and link back to the site?

I think make vids is an excellent idea.

It's a great idea that countless members and guests would benefit from.

Would be glad to help with the effort if possible.

Front fork seal replacement
Tire/wheel replacment

Carb sync

Sure there's more, but all of these would be a great help to many.

I'm going to replace my tensioners with APE's sometime this week so I'll tape it to have in the can.

U-tube? I think that would be great. Is it free to use?

Ok, talked with Dmag. he said best bet is to load them onto utube, and embed them to this site.... To keep file size to a resonable size, i will break them into segments..... I.e. there will be an oil change, radiator fluid change, ect. This way for removal of the engine will require watching several parts. oil change, radiator fluid change, removal of the seat, pipe removal, ect. That way those with dial up can still take part, and it will save on file space.

i need a list of all so that i dont miss anything.....
Thanks!!!

I can shoot some too. I need to do an oil change anyway, so that is something I could do this weekend or over Thanksgiving.
