Smile Its alive

Bike started first time since I got it. it sounded nice better then I thought it would. I kind of got ahead of myself and jumped on for a ride was great first ride on a real bike. Now have a list of prblems still to fix

Battery or stator bike won't start up after you kill it with out a jump.

Right blinker doesn't work may be the switch.

And head light comes on when it wants to.

Also speedo gear box needs to be replaced along with cable.

All int all great fun just wish I had the money now to do it all at once but it takes time.

Thanks to all that have helped me so far and every one else on the forum for the info from the threads.

Glad to hear you finally got it to run. Do you have a Digital Volt Meter (the most important tool for your VN tool box)? If not you need to invest in one. Start a thread for your charging issues in the electrical system.

Why do you need both a spoeedo drive gear box and a cable? the drive gear is a simple little gar box that is easy to repair unless the gears are stripped. 90% of the time the problem is only a broken cable. diagnostics is easy... take off the cable from the cable from the drive gear, lift the front tire off the ground and spin the tire while looking at the drive gear output shaft, if it spins, the drive gear is fine. put the cable back onto the drive gear and disconnect the cable from the speedo, and spin the tire again, you should be able to see the cable spin, if not. you have a bad cable.

your headlight issue sounds like a bad connection at the Headlight bucket, or the RLU. Search Headlight Bypass.

Not sure what you mean by "finger" The speedo cable has a groove in it at the wheel end, that fits over a rectangular projection down in the gear drive on the front axle. The other end is square, and fits into a square hole in the speedometer drive, on the bottom of the speedometer. If the cable is broken, you can buy just the inner cable, you don't have to get the whole thing unless the housing/threaded connectors are also damaged. I'm pretty sure the gear drive on the front axle is only sold as one part.

I am a motorcyclist, NOT a biker.
