Lugggage racks

I was introduced to a guy here in town that has a custom fabrication shop.
I was talking to him about luggage racks for our bikes.
Where does the luggage rack bolt to our bikes?
I know there are 2 bolts under the seat, but where do the other bolts go?
And on another note, what would be some good dimensions to give to this guy for the size of the rack?
I thought about a 14 by 14 or 14 by 18. Round bar or square?
Either a square rack, or oblong with the rails front to back instead of sideways.
I'm thinking about bare metal so the purchaser could have it chromed locally, or paint it to match the bike.
Give me some ideas guys. I think I can have them made fairly inexpensively.

Here a different design I saw on ebay, not sure who made it but it looks like a pretty easy design. Considering I usually don't carry much more than my lunch box on mine I don't think the weight limit would be that bad.

Sorry for the small pic, I couldn't get it to copy larger, but it looks like it uses the 2 bolts on each side that hold the sissy bar

I'm perfectly happy with my Kawasaki rack, all I use it for is for a T-Bag to rest on, one of those that slips over the sissy bar. I also have the extended backrest. I would not put a lot of weight on any luggage rack on the VN750, because of the way it attaches. There are two different types of Kawasaki racks, the older style and the newer style. I have the newer style. I don't know what the difference is.

I personally didn't think it was a good idea because the bottom bolt holes would break on the sissy bar.
At least the cast aluminum early style would break. Mine was that way when I bought the bike.

Actually, with the older style (first generation) luggage rack, the sissy bar, or backrest extension, mounted thru the luggage rack. Bolt holes didn't "break" as such, on mine, but the ones in the fender struts did strip out, and I had to heli-coil 'em; that was at the Gathering when it first returned to Kentucky Lake.

The first gen luggage rack was rectangular framed, with flat crosspieces, and did not have the extensions that bolted under the seat.

The lower bolt holes on my factory sissy bar were broken off and laying down inside of the fender struts.
I'm not sure how or why they were broke, all I know is that I had a hell of a time fishing the pieces out of there because I didn't want to have to pull the struts.
IMHO I think it was a bad design because there was only 2 bolts holding the sissy bar in place, and if you had a passenger behind you all the time, it wouldn't take too long to break the sissy bar off.
One of Ma Kaw's better ideas I suppose.
