Salvage Yards

Just wanted to say folks check your local area for salavge yards, bike yards in particular, I am lucky to have one close.

In my need for a new front turn signal, I went and he took me to a bike he thought had a good one, well to my suprise, yes it did, it also had V&H Crusers on it in perfect condition, rear luggage rack, saddle bag supports with turnsignal relocation brackets, chrome side covers, sissy bar extender, engine guard and iso grips.

In need of a signal my list changed and aquired so far:

V&H Pipes - $200
Luggage Rack - $50
Saddle kit and covers - $130
Turn Signal - He tossed it in

Still to come on next trip:

Engine guard - $75
Extender - $50
Grips - $20

He had the bike in a shed cause he was gonna fix it and sell it, its stuck in between gears, who knows why the owner said to hell with it, but as he told me, hes in the parts biz not the used bike biz and someone needed the gas tank and handle bars, I got the rest.

Some may differ, but in my ebay shopping, I think I got a good deal so I just wanted to share.

Good job on the find. You will have to throw some pics up when you got it all on.

Awesome that you found some Vance and Hines. I'm hoping to buy a set of those next season, unfortunately I probably wont get a deal like that! Congratulations on finding those great parts.

I hope you like those pipes. I bought some brand new, couldn't deal with the sound at highway speeds, and sold them for $200. Put the stock system back on with all new gaskets. Lost a lot of money, but learned a valuable lesson. And was able to fix the problem. They sound great around town, but the rpms are high on the highway, and they start to sound like a really loud chainsaw. Something about the frequency of the sound just annoyed the crap out of me. Even ear plugs didn't get rid of it.

My Road King has Screamin Eagle pipes, and they are about as loud as the V&H, but they don't loose that nice sound on the highway. At 75 mph, engine rpm is less than half of what the Vulcan is turning. The Harley has a small bore long stroke engine with 1340ccs, while the Vulcan has a large bore short stroke engine of only 749ccs. Aside from the single crankpin (which sure seems odd on that engine) it seems Kawasaki did everything possible to make it as un-cruiser like as possible.

I am a motorcyclist, NOT a biker.

<chuckle> I've got two less than 5 miles from the house. One of 'em's got two 700s and a 750 carcass; not much left of any of 'em now, tho. Got lucky with a 3rd yard that got out of the salvage busines a few years ago, and picked up the whole rear section for $100, including the extended backrest, first gen luggage rack, final drive and wheel, and the swingarm.
