Did some thing really cool last night

Hi everybody,

Just a couple of old farm boys here. Last night we were torquing the nut in the clutch basket. We didn't have a tool to hold the hub from turning so we set the rear brake and wedged a chock under the wheel. The maximum torque we could achieve was 40ft/lbs and the spec. calls for 96ft/lbs. We just could not hold the wheel any tighter. So we thought and we thought, really hard.

Aaaha! We'll wedge a screwdriver in and use the clutch spring bolt tabs to hold the hub from turning. Brilliant!!

Well the tab snapped off at 40ft/lbs. OhS*@##%T.

Luckily Mama Kawi foresaw this possibility so they left a hole at the end of the tab. They even countersunk it. So? Hey the stator cover has screws with countersunk heads and the same threads, the right length. We're back in business.

We took the o-ring off the screw, added some red locktite for good measure and socked that baby home. We think that since all the load on the tab is linear
there won't be any problem.

I wish we took pics. This mod will go down in history.

Would running a hoe handle or 2-by through the wheel have held enough to tighten the bolt?

I don't under stand what the mod here is.

Yup, we need a picture. I can`t visualize where the screw went.

I think it is more of a save after something was broken.

Just kidding about the mod. Lighten up.

Funny thing we did put a handle through the spokes after we fixed the tab. That never crossed our minds at first.

The nut torqued to 96ft/lbs and the spoke didn't even get to the handle.

WTF
