Stuck in a rut......

I have posted my issues here and gotten great help, and like anything else I fix, I find more issues. Here is a list of original symptoms:

Ran rough at idle
Idle speed changing
Intermittently running rough

So, I changed the plugs to NGK's, changed the oil, backflushed the carbs using the method in the verses, changed a bad vaccuum line, removed some crappy inline fuel filters that PO installed, cleaned the gas tank vent line and while I was at it I relocated my R/R. I went on vacation for 3 weeks, dying to get back and ride.

Now, the bike idles great, sounds smooth, no popping on decel, but I have NO POWER in any gear. I have the throttle wide open in every gear and can barely get any acceleration. I have to give it a lot of throttle to keep it running in gear. I have no idea what I could have done to create this problem, but my riding season is oming to a close very soon and I want some time on the bike before winter hits. Any ideas???

You know, this sounds exactly like the issue I have that happens only after it rains - even though the bike is under covered parking. Someone on here posted that maybe there are hairline cracks in my plug wires causing it to miss like that. I don't know if they were right or not because fortunately for my riding desires, it rarely rains here. Oh, and because it's pretty much impossible to just go and buy new plug wires - you have to make them yourself from what I have gathered.

I wonder though if your problem could be caused by the same thing - if indeed that is what is causing mine...? Anyone else..?

question... when you are trying to accelerate does the engine surge and lunge similar to running out of gas? my first thought is that the carbs are starving for some reason. kinked fuel line, blocked vent hose to the carbs. the other thing is ignition. I had a bad set of plugs that would die during acceleration but would be fine at idle. they weren't NGK tho so it's doubtful that is the problem. I would pull a plug from reach cylinder after riding it a but (they might clean up after idling) to see what is doing in there. did you check the gap on the plugs if a couple of them are too wide it won't be able to maintain spark during acceleration due to the increase in fuel, compression etc. couple of ideas anyway. good luck.
Dave.

On the carb. vent hose, I'm thinking the one that plugs in the right side air box, did you cut it off at a 45* angle so as not to block it off...???
Just a thought, others will chime in and help...

I would look at your clutch cable first to see if you are fully disingaging the clutch...I had this on mine when trying to get the right tention on the cable.

good point... although I'm pretty sure you'd smell that pig burning up after riding around a little if the cable wasn't fully disengaging it, lol. the other thing is that it didn't do this particular symptom until after the plugs and and carbs were touched...unless I missed something. might want to check for vacuum leaks also.

When I had something similar to this happen to me; it was a pinched fuel line. Second time; a little water in the tank.

Vent hose i the right ear is cut to a 45, no surging from the engine at all, just no power. Will have to check the plugs and wires tonight, the plugs dont even have 20 miles on them. I am also going to replace the fuel lines also, should have done it anyway. Just want my bike back........lol

I know this is kind of unrelated to anything that you did to fix the previous problems, but have you checked the splines on your final drive?

That's a good question. When you say it has no power, is tge engine revving like crazy or not getting up there in the rpms? What is your tachometer doing when you have it wide open?
