Ethanol vs Non Ethanol--

I just ran across this and had not seen it before, I know a lot of y'all believe strong in the Ethanol thingy so here is something that should tell you something, what I don't know...lol...

This is the Gvt. MPG rating for a truck like the one I have...
2011 Silverado 1500, 5.3 V8 w/6 sp Auto Trans...
Reg. Gas = 22 mpg Highway
E-85 = 16 mpg Highway

I realize that the difference would not be as great with the normal 10%, but just thought I would post these findings, as some folks believe that ethanol is such a good thing...

Have a good one...Old Dog...

I don't care for ethanol even though I'm currently working at a "Cow Power" digester plant making electricity off of cow farts. Green has it's place but no0t at the cost of my fuel economy and longevity of my mechanicals.

Dare I ask.....how do you catch the farts?

BTW....I hear that the ethanol mix is hard on the valves on older engines as mine. I have a 74 with 350, 70 with 350, and 60 with the inline 235 six.

Ethanol is evil to everyone other than tree huggers and corn farmers. It has much less energy so the mpg is less and it is very destructive to fuel systems. If you do get gas with ethanol make sure you burn it up in 30 days or add a stabilizer to it (Sta-Bil is popular but motorcycle guys tend to like Seaform better). The FAA used to allow older, low compressor aircraft to burn automotive gas. No more. The FAA has strictly prohibited the use of any fuel that contains ethanol because of the damaging effects it has on fuel systems, tanks, seals, etc.

i know that any mercruiser engine useing anymore then 10% etanol the powerplant warrenty is void
you require more fuel to make the same amount of power there for decreasing the mpg ...

And that doesn't take into consideration the fact that it requires more energy to plant, grow, harvest, transport, and process the corn than the resulting ethanol produces!

I'm keepin' all the left over parts. I'm gonna use 'em to build another bike!

Goin green on a lot of things posses a question to me, I believe they didn't have far to go... Stupid is still stupid, right...??? We could fix a lot of problems by just headin North with the drills...lol... You would see gas prices drop like a rock, no more kissin the middle East's rears, and jobs, jobs, jobs, and china would be one of our big customers, instead of us bein their biggest customer, the dollar would soar to its old heights again...lol...

Alcohol should be drunk, not burned.

In the STL area you are kinda stuck with stations selling "up to 10% ethonal" ...

would think there is some way to remove it from gasoline , but not sure how you would do it without killing yourself, blowing up the house, or just making the resulting gas useless...

Where's my chemisty professor when I need him?
