Question about keys

Just bought a vn750 today, and i was wondering if the ignition key opens the gas cap as well? If not, is there a way i can get the cap off without the key so i can remove the rollers in the key slot?

In theory it should open ignition, gas cap and helmet locks..unless it's like mine and I only had the ignition key. The gas cap and helmet locks were keyed differently. I had a locksmith come make me a set, so now I have one key for ignition and another key for gas cap and helmet locks. He could of rekeyed it all the same, but it would about double..so I'm fine with two keys for the bike.

One trick on the gas cap is to push down on the front of it and then turn the key if it's just stuck slightly...after spraying liberally with lubricant...but if it's not moving at all then it may be a wrong key. And yeah..the key only goes in half way.

Garage
For those that understand how locks work...... The gas cap and the helmet locks only use three pins. The ignition and the trunk lock use four. They still need to be cut right to work, but this means the ignition is harder to "pick".

This related to me by someone else... I have not taken any of the locks apart to check this.

Glad you figured out how to open the gas cap... And that you thought to check that out before it was too late. That's a terrible way to start owning a bike: "Well, here I am on reserve fuel and... hmmm....."
