My wife road on tha back of my 2004 for the first time last night. I have owned alot of bikes over the years including Ultra Classics, Vulcan 1500FI, Honda Valkyrie, several Sportsters, crotch rockets etc..
Anyway, I prefer smaller bikes and I am really digging my 750. She finds it to be uncomfortable and very cramped. I notice too that with her on the back she pushes me forward to the point of I am sitting straight up and I have to adjust my mirrors because I am pushed so far forward.
Now.. on to the question..
The wheelbase on a Vulcan is 62.2
The wheelbase on a sportster is 60
The length on the Vulcan is 90.4
The length on the sportster is 90.1
It would appear that the Vulcan is very similar in size to a Sportster yet when my wife and I 2up on a Sportster its not nearly as cramped. I can lean back and she has room to move around. On the Vulcan its as if I am giving her a piggy back ride!
When looking at the Vulcan as compared to the Sportster the Vulcan seating location is pushed alot closer to the tank. The Sportster seat extends over the rear fender alot more than the Vulcan. Also, that little sissy bar storage box really cuts into the passenger seating room.
Has anybody noticed this?
For sure. The stock seat is cramped for 2 up riding.

Upgraded Mosfet rectifier
Several have altered the seat to give their passenger more room. Many of the aftermarket seats are more comfortable, but do not increase passenger seat size.
Do what I did....find a smaller wife......
Great idea about the wife!
I think its all about the factory passenger sissybar/storage compartment.
It really cuts into the passenger seating space and it looks like there isn't much I could do about it without major modification. I was hoping I could remove the entire seat and sissy bar/storage compartment assembly and mount a new longer aftermarket seat on the bike and a traditional sissy bar
but that doesn't seem possible.
Time to call Nutrisystem.
yeah,,,its a useless seat for 2 up. i have same problem with girl friend on the back (so i leave her at home). lol. i moved the handle bars forward a few inches,,and it did make it a bit better. i found it could be awkward riding too when you are cramped up,,not good. try moving the bars,,you may be suprised !!.
